Malibu nonprofit Safety Harbor Kids began its ninth annual Spirit of Goodwill Toy Challenge on Dec. 11. The drive will provide Christmas gifts to orphans, foster children and homeless children within 50 miles of Malibu.
As of Dec. 11, the organization has collected 616 gifts and needs 384 more to reach its goal of providing 1,000 gifts. The Hertz Foundation is this year’s current leader, sponsoring 50 children.
Safety Harbor Kids was founded by an orphan who grew up in Malibu, with the purpose of enriching the lives of orphans and homeless children through education in college and career preparation, music and the arts. Corporate sponsorships allow the organization to provide tutoring and mentorship to disadvantaged children within 50 miles of Malibu.
