I was privileged to attend the Malibu Township Council’s forum for City Council candidates on March 18. Of the three attending candidates, the shining star was Ryan Embree who knew the facts of how, why and what to do next in order to make this city functional again for all its residents from preschool to senior citizens.

I was especially pleased to hear Ryan Embree’s plan to make PCH safer by bringing back the California Highway Patrol. Previously unknown to me, the city has been spending between $2 and $3 million a year extra to cover for the CHP’s retreat since 1992. The city should stop subsidizing the state and fix the CHP’s economic scheme to free up those annual millions which could be spent to acquire parks, ball fields and a permanent teen/senior center, all long past due.

Ryan’s most valuable quality is his municipal memory from 15 years services to the city as Public Safety Commission chair, Transportation Study Group co-chair and Emergency Preparedness Task Force secretary.

Ryan Embree proved, at this debate, that he really knows his stuff.
