Local lifeguard Ed Heinrich was one of the winners at the United States Lifesaving Association National Lifeguard Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. The competition took place from Aug. 10-12 with more than 1,000 competitors. Heinrich, 70, won six gold medals in the following competitions: run-swim-run, ironman, board race, ironguard, surf race and surf ski.
Heinrich has patrolled Zuma and Corral beaches since the mid-’60s. For his achievements, Ed has been named an official “Baywatch Hero” by Paramount Pictures, the film studio behind the remake of “Baywatch.”
