In response to “Candidate quotes,” published on Sept. 6.
I applaud the decisions of Damavandi, Palmer, Farrer, Pierson and Simmens to run for city council. It requires great dedication and a willingness to commit countless hours to the city’s governing.
The candidate quotes that appeared in your last issue, on Sept. 6, reflect valid concerns: to feel the city will act in our best interest, to preserve the quality of life, to fight for what we want and to use our past experience in governing to continue to serve this city. I wonder, whose best interests, who defines quality of life? I would hope that all of these general and worthy sentiments could be expressed specifically in a direct statement. If elected, every decision made by the council will consider the Earth first. Without a healthy natural environment, there is no quality of life. All properties sold in Malibu need to have a rider on the sales contract stating this dedication, including the agreement not to use poisons on the Earth. It’s a beginning.
