The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is cracking down on drunk driving beginning Dec. 17 and continuing through the New Year. Local Sheriff’s deputies will be conducting DUI/driver’s license checkpoints along with Avoid DUI Talk Force Campaigns in Malibu Saturday, Dec. 18. Other local cities with checkpoints include Agoura Hills, Dec. 17, Calabasas, Dec. 21 and Westlake Village, Dec. 22. According to the Sheriff’s Department, during the last two and a half weeks of 2009, 36 Californians were killed in crashes statewide with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher and 1,168 were inured in alcohol-related crashes.

Today deputies are conducting a stationary enforcement checkpoint on PCH near Webb Way. Deputies are looking for people committing distracted driver violations such as talking on a cell phone or wearing headphones.
