Whether you want to lend a helping hand or take in Malibu’s music scene, there’s plenty to do during the first weekend of fall in Malibu.

This Friday brings fall to Malibu. The autumnal equinox takes place Sept. 23, marking the first day of the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere.

Also happening Friday is the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu’s Emily Shane “Pass It Forward” day, where participants can take part in a variety of charitable events. Activities include making sack lunches for the Ventura Homeless Shelter, writing letters to children in local hospitals and making toys for local animals shelters, among others. Participants can also donate items, such as eyeglasses, school supplies and necessary items for the Westside Homeless Outreach program. Additionally, there will be a silent auction to benefit the Emily Shane Foundation tutoring program. The event takes place at the BGCM Teen Center, 30215 Morning View Dr., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. More information can be obtained by calling Jenn at 310.457.1400.

Local artists gather Saturday for the Malibu Music Awards, taking place to conclude the week-long Malibu Music Festival. The awards will feature musicians such as Shwayze and Cisco Adler, Cimorelli, The BackBeats and many others. The awards ceremony takes place at the Malibu Country Mart, 3836 Cross Creek Rd., at 7:30 p.m. For more information, check out our article on the festival and awards: http://www.malibutimes.com/articles/2011/09/22/news/news5.txt, or visit www.malibumusicawards.com.

The 7th Annual Miss Malibu Pageant takes place Sunday afternoon. Contestants are judged based on a personal interview, a fitness/swimsuit competition and an evening gown competition. The event will be hosted by Madison Hildebrand and Kristina Guerrero. Additionally, The Malibu Times newspaper and magazine editor Laura Tate will serve as one of the pageant’s judges. The rest of the judging panel includes Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner, Aubrey O’Day and Isaiah Mustafa, better known as the Old Spice guy.

The event takes place at the Malibu Golf Club, 901 Encinal Canyon Rd. The cocktail reception begins at 2 p.m. and the pageant begins at 4 p.m. General admission tickets cost $35.
