There will be many accolades said about Jerry Perenchio and the entertainment industry. I want to remark on something closer to home.
When Perenchio owned the Malibu Colony Shopping Center (where Ralphs is located), it was always freshly painted, spotlessly clean and fastidiously landscaped. Occasionally, I even saw him out there personally picking up litter. During the holidays, pretty white lights were strung up all the palm trees. What a lovely gift to the community.
After the center was sold to Kroenke, it went to pot fast. Although I never knew Perenchio personally, I missed him when I saw the center deteriorating.Â
This coming holiday season, I hope the new owners, if there are new owners, will string white lights up the palm trees in Perenchio’s honor.
