Attendees take part in summer star-gazing and other activities at the Summer Star Festival on Saturday.

Approximately 815 visitors came out to the National Park Service’s Summer Star Festival, complete with star-gazing, constellation tours, music and children’s activities, at Paramount Ranch Aug. 10.

Local fifth-grade musicians and the Ranger Band played astronomy-themed music as visitors arrived. Additionally, California Lutheran University physics professor Mike Shaw presented a talk and Hal Jandorf, Moorpark College astronomy professor and Ventura County Astronomical Society president, gave a constellation tour.

“Though we’re adjacent to one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, you’d be amazed at what you can see and experience in our night sky,” NPS park ranger Robert Cromwell said.
