Numerous men and women turned out for the California State Lifeguard tryouts held two weeks ago at Leo Carillo State Beach. The tryouts consist of completing a 500-meter ocean swim in less than 10 minutes;
a 1,000-meter combined run-swim-run; a 400-meter surf swim; a 400-meter paddleboard race and an oral interview.
