Better act quickly if you want to buy more Girl Scout cookies before the booths disappear for another year.
Girls Scout troops will be setting up booths in front of Malibu retailers through Sunday, March 8, when the month-long Girl Scout Cookies Program officially wraps up.
The troops will be selling all their classics like Thin Mints and Trefoils along with two new cookies, Rah-Rah Raisin and Toffee-tastic.
Though the cookies are always popular, some worried that a price increase from $4 to $5 per box would make sales take a hit. Such fears seem to be unfounded.
“Our sales are up. The Brentwood, Malibu and Palisades areas are on pace with last year. We usually sell about 50,000 boxes of cookies,” said DeAnn Healy, who oversees the 45 regional groups participating in the cookie program this season.
Malibu troop leader Jasmine Laubender agreed that her troop has not encountered any challenges selling cookies this year.
“People are pretty understanding that we’re trying to fundraise,” said Laubender, whose troop includes 13 local girls.
“I think the cookies are very unique and I think people are willing to pay for them. I have not seen any problem with the raising of the prices this year,” Laubender added.
Laubender’s daughter, sixth grader Jessica Laubender, has been in Troop 2615 since she was in first grade, and said that she enjoys the activities that their troop’s cookie money funds.
“I enjoy hanging out with my friends and holding the signs,” Jessica said.
Troop 2615 set a goal of selling 1,900 boxes of cookies this year.
“Cookies are a way for our troops to earn some money for themselves and the girls love doing it every year,” Laubender said.
