Ralph Erickson, president of the Malibu Democratic Club, was elected to the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee in the primary election on March 2. He becomes the first Malibuite to serve on the committee in more than a decade, and he will serve with six other Democrats also elected from Assemblymember Fran Pavley’s district.
The County Democratic Committee endorses Democratic candidates and takes positions on important policy issues through resolutions for the guidance of Democratic officeholders, candidates and Democratic organizations throughout Los Angeles County.

Domoic acid
WildRescue, a local wildlife organization, reportedly observed three brown pelicans at Malibu Lagoon that were exhibiting signs of domoic acid poisoning. The organization said rescuers are bracing for epidemic numbers of infirm wildlife.
To help locate animals that need help, and to monitor those under observation, WildRescue is organizing a Beach Watch program. Volunteers will be trained to identify and evaluate potentially stricken marine mammals and birds.
Those interested are asked to contact Rebecca through WildRescue’s hotline, 818.222.WILD or
e-mail rebecca@wildrescue.org.

Streisand refuses to pay legal fees
Barbra Streisand, who took to court her claim that an aerial photograph of her Malibu estate was an invasion of privacy, is now balking at paying the legal fees of her legal opponent, Kenneth Adelman.
When Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Allan J. Goodman threw out Streisand’s $10 million lawsuit last December, he awarded legal fees to the California Coastal Records Project and Adelman, the group’s founder. Though Goodman directed the litigants to come to an agreement on reasonable fees, Streisand has refused to pay the $220,000 sought by her opponent.
As a result, on March 4 Adelman filed a motion seeking a court order directing Streisand to pay up. Streisand, on her Web site, www.barbrastreisand.com, under Truth Alerts, said the amount of court-ordered legal fees is still before the court for determination, and she is still waiting for and not “balking” at that final amount.
