In news from 90 miles up the coast.

Outraged continues over the deal between wealthy landowners at Hollister Ranch … and state officials… to bar the public from accessing the beaches there by land.

Activists on Monday filed a court action to intervene on the closed door settlement reached by the state Coastal Commission, the California Coastal Conservancy and the Hollister Ranch Owners Assn.

The deal grants access to a section of untarnished shoreline in Santa Barbara County only to select guided tours or those who can boat or paddle in.

Coastal officials in agreed to give up their claim of any public route by land.

This deal is blasted as unfair to the beach-going public … according to a motion filed in Santa Barbara County Superior Court by a collection of beach access advocates.

They say the public was  intentionally left out of the negotiations.

Even some coastal commissioners say the scope of the agreement that they approved makes them very uneasy.

The judge in Santa Barbara has agreed to reconvene Sept. 10 for a final hearing on whether to approve the settlement.

One grower says they are seeing signs of visual damage to the avocados.

And it gets worse.

The Farm Bureau of Ventura County boss … John Krist … tells the Ventura county star that several days of hot weather can drastically impact avocado yields for several years.

Severe heat can ruin the fruit they are picking this season…

There will be less of everyone’s favorite fruit on the store shelves next year .. he says.
