Smoke visible in the area of Puerco Canyon Ranch Monday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 17, will come from the location of a film set, according to spokespeople from the production.

The film crew secured permits for “use of pyrotechnic smoke on the property,” which is located west of Malibu Canyon Road, about a half-mile north of Pacific Coast Highway, from around 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

According to information shared by location manager Scott Poole, permits were processed from the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (also known as the MRCA) and the City of Malibu.

“The LA County Fire Department will have personnel there monitoring the filming activities,” Poole clarified. “We have also notified the Ventura County Fire Department.  Each day our on site Fire Safety Officer will also contact the local fire department prior to use of the smoke effects.”

On Monday morning, reports of a fire in the Puerco Canyon area were found to be false alarms, according to alerts from the City of Malibu and LASD.
