Standing on Stone Ministries of Malibu, a nonprofit organization dedicated to putting homeless people on the right track, will be the beneficiary of this year’s Bernie Safire Cut-A-Thon. The Malibu hair guru will host the 20th edition of his annual charity event at the Malibu Country Mart on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hairstylists from the salon owned by Safire and his daughter, Hillary, will be giving haircuts for a minimum donation of $25. There will also be an auction, with items having been donated from several local businesses. In addition, there will be music and appearances by Malibu celebrities Olivia Newton-John and Dick Van Dyke. The event will also include an art station and other activities for children and adults.

Standing on Stone Ministries of Malibu is entirely operated by volunteers. The organization helps to improve homeless people’s lives by preparing them for job interviews. Some people may need their teeth fixed, hair cut, or to acquire interview clothes so they will look presentable, which Standing on Stone Ministries helps to provide. The organization also provides food on certain nights of the week for the homeless people and helps them to get back in touch with their families.

Hillary Safire said, “They [Standing on Stone Ministries] are dedicated to transferring people off the streets and into a productive life.”
