In response to “Letter: A correction” published on Feb. 22.

Thank you, Catherine E. Whitford, for your correction; I admire and envy you for your literary expertise: indeed “a statue cannot write poetry.” 

However, that statue can speak. I know because that statue spoke to me as I tearfully read “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free … “

We have been blessed with exceptional and rare statesmen who dreamed and analyzed as they created this greatest civilization.

Oh, what the hell, let Trump and his fraternity brother Putin continue to swim in the hole that Trump dug.
