Pepperdine University will be staging its 21st annual Dance in Flight student showcase this weekend, from Thursday, Feb 6 – Saturday, Feb 8.
“The exciting thing about this year is that half of the dancers are participating in Dance in Flight for the first time, many of them freshman,” said Bill Szobody, the director of this year’s Dance in Flight recital.
The showcase, which this year will feature choreography inspired by critically acclaimed films such as “Pulp Fiction,” “Casablanca,” “The Sound of Music” and “Despicable Me,” is one of the most popular traditions at Pepperdine, according to a university statement.
“As a student, Dance in Flight was the reason I ultimately chose to attend Pepperdine,” said student organizations coordinator Alexandra Palmer. “Now as a working professional for the past four years, Dance in Flight has been the reason I have stayed.”
Pepperdine students not only dance in the showcase, but also choreographed the performances and collaborated with lighting and costume designers in preparation for the show. The recital will draw from a wide range of dance styles including jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet, modern, ballroom and world dance.
The performances will take place at the Smothers Theatre on Pepperdine’s campus on Thursday-Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale through the Smothers Theatre Box Office at 310.506.4522.
