Pepperdine University held its 10th annual active shooter drill last Thursday, bringing together a string of local public safety agencies for the staged event on the Malibu campus. The training simulated an active shooter on the campus and responses from the LA County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments as they tended to wounded victims and neutralized zones of the campus.Â
Two drills were held, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, when a helicopter was brought to the scene.
“Historically, medical response to potential victims has occurred only when the threat has been neutralized; recent active shooter incidents have caused both law enforcement and fire agencies to identify new strategies to hasten efforts,” a media release stated.
The LAPD, California Highway Patrol, Secret Service and Ventura County Sheriff’s Department also assisted during the drills.
