[Update: 5 p.m.] All lanes of PCH in Western Malibu have reopened following an earlier closure due to a small brush fire.

A small brush fire had eastbound Pacific Coast Highway closed at Trancas Canyon Road Monday afternoon, July 18, though the flames were already subdued before road closure notices were put out.

Deputy Morales with the Los Angeles County Fire Department explained that the fire, which was measured at 50 feet by 50 feet, was called in at 3:56 p.m. and was knocked down by 4:08 p.m. Monday.

“They are already calling knockdown at this time,” Morales told The Malibu Times at 4:10 p.m.

Numerous personnel including two fire engines, four camp crews, a patrol and battalion chief were on scene, Morales said there were no more active flames.

PCH should be reopened by 5 p.m., in time for afternoon rush traffic.

“Westbound lanes are open and there’s about a 30 minute closure for the eastbound lanes,” a sheriff’s department spokesperson said.
