Cynthia Kesselman tells us “the proposal [to add field lights at Malibu High School] calls for four 12.3 foot light standards with 1,500 watts each for a total of 72,000 watts.”
[Letter to the Editor, “Shedding light on the numbers,” July 26, 2012]
She apparently calculated this by multiplying 4 X 12 X 1500 which equals 72,000.
However, since she’s multiplying 4 X 12 feet X 1,500 watts the result would be 72,000 foot watts, a new unit of measurement, which should be reported to the National Bureau of Standards, now called NIST.
