Santa Monica Mountain Lions Feeding

The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains received a $650,000 grant from the California Wildlife Conservation Board to help fund Phase 1 of a wildlife corridor designed to help wildlife cross over the 101 freeway.

The corridor will be built where Liberty Canyon crosses the 101 freeway in Agoura Hills and mainly provide a crossing for mountain lions, which would help diversify the mountain lion population gene pool in the Santa Monica Mountains. Because of the dangers of crossing the 101 Freeway, a small population of mountain lions has been isolated in the mountains and is threatened by low genetic diversity.
