The July attacks in London and the August disaster in New Orleans demonstrate the importance of respecting local law enforcement. When things go wrong, it is local law enforcement that is first on the scene. They are there before the fire trucks, ambulances or military!

Movies and TV series that dramatize the corruption of law enforcement or make fun of them should stop and think about the New Orleans policemen who committed suicide and those that turned in their badges. They knew better than anyone else what was really at stake.

Two points can be made here. First is that they are human just like the rest of us. Second is that if all society respects them they would not be shot at. Think about the next time we have an earthquake or fire in Malibu. Think about how to help law enforcement so they can help you. They may not all be perfect, but who is? Remember! Deputies are the first ones we need when things go wrong.
