May I heartily endorse the wonderful letter sent to The Malibu Times last week by Ellen Reich. She is most humble and fails to tell us that she is not only a published poet but is highly regarded in the world of national poetry. Single-handedly, she not only has taught poetry here but also written splendid works. Malibu needs a ‘poet laureate’ and Ellen should be the one.
It requires no expenditure, just a council resolution. Perhaps this is the only free thing we can do for our beloved city in a long time.
I have followed the foibles of this town since Reeves Templeman owned The Malibu Times. Much like writer O’Henry did for New York (Baghdad on the Hudson) so we need a poet like Ellen to make us a “Mecca on the Sea.”
