Students from Point Dume Marine Science School are recognized by the Malibu City Council for their sustainable practices at the school.

Point Dume Marine Science School students received a proclamation from the Malibu City Council declaring Nov. 15 “America Recycles Day.” The school was recognized for its sustainable practices for its waste-free lunch program, promotion of reducing, reusing and recycling, and for the creation of a student compost club to maintain the school’s organic garden.

To help celebrate America Recycles Day, students wore green, sold avocados from their school tree and organic fertilizer from their composting bins, and collected plastic bottles for recycling. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
