Joan Gahan died on Aug. 18 from breast cancer. She was 80.
The 49-year Malibu resident worked for the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and was one of Los Angeles County’s first female detectives. She also worked in reservations for Trans World Airlines.
During World War II Gahan served as a submarine spotter for the Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
Gahan is survived by her brother, Ralph Rose; children, Pam Mitchell, Brooke Mik, and Ric Lippincott and her dog, Daisy.
