Local photographer and filmmaker Rachel Gray recently honored her brother, the late Scott Wells, by presenting the Scott Wells Golden Reel award at the 25th Annual UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) student film festival, “Reel Loud.”
Wells grew up in Malibu and died of colon cancer in 2012. He was a UCSB film studies alumnus who would have been 40 years old this year. The award, given in his memory, seeks to acknowledge outstanding filmmakers and emerging talent, and includes an ongoing annual grant from Wells’ family.
Wells’ mother, Lori Gray, encourages community members to learn about and be aware of the symptoms of colon cancer. More information can be found at cdc.gov/cancer/colorectal.
