A fundraiser is scheduled today at King Gillette Ranch in Thousand Oaks from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to support mountain lion research.
Thrown by the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, the fundraising partner of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, proceeds will go specifically toward a decade-long mountain lion study currently being conducted by the National Park Service (NPS), according to the Topanga Messenger.
NPS biologists are tracking eight mountain lions in an attempt to understand how they move through the Santa Monica Mountains, which have been fragmented by roads and human encroachment, and how best to conserve them.
The Santa Monica Mountains Fund requests a donation of $100 for adults and $25 for children under 12. Reservations and general donations may be made at samofund.org/UrbCarn.htm. More information is available by calling 818-292-5920.
