MFS to Show Three Films in Awards Season Screenings

The Malibu Film Society announced the first three films in its “Awards Season Screening Series.” On Wednesday, Oct. 11, “Marshall”—a film about Thurgood Marshall and his experience culminating in his appointment as America’s first black Supreme Court justice—will be shown, followed by a Q&A with producer-director Reginald Hudlin. Next, “Darkest Hour,” where actor Gary Oldman plays British Prime Minister Winston Churchill facing Nazi forces and a government divided, screens six weeks before opening weekend. It will be followed by a Q&A with screenwriter Anthony McCarten. 

Lastly, “Cries from Syria,” a look into what’s actually happening in the war-torn country, will screen as a free and open event for the entire community (with reservations). A Q&A with Oscar-nominated producer-director Evgeny Afineevsky will follow.

All screenings will take place in the Malibu Screening Room at the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue; doors open at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 showtime.Visit MalibuFilmSociety.org for reservations. Admission to all screenings is free for members of MFS.
