Carol Hector, editor and publisher of The Argonaut newspaper, died Sept. 5. She was 62.

Hector was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 6, 1948. Her family moved to the United States when she was young. She received her schooling in Michigan and moved to Los Angeles in 1976. Hector began working at The Argonaut in 1979 in the advertising department. After a short time, she was promoted to production manager, a position she held until she became editor in 2006.

Hector enjoyed painting, travelling and technology. She liked restoring old photos of her friends and family. She had recently begun locating old friends using social networking.

In 2008, Hector married Arlene R. Ruiz, her partner of 32 years. Ruiz told The Argonaut that Hector enjoyed spending time at home with her and their animals.

In addition to Ruiz, Hector is survived by her father Russel, sister Sherry, brother Gary, niece Jennifer and uncle Gorden.

At press time there were no known plans for a public memorial service. Ruiz said there would be a private memorial for family and friends.
