Remember the nights we used to hear Doc Severenson play
That led up to the moment we’d hear Ed McMahon say
Heeeerrr’s Johnny and we’d jump to our feet
Throw open the window and yell down the street
The King of Late Night Comedy is about to hold court
We all loved Johnny Carson so much, I’m proud to report
He was so funny and quick and he had a great smile
And he had the best timing; we loved him all the while
These days go by and sometimes I feel sad
Just mention his name and I’m instantly glad
Where are you, Mr. C? Please come back for awhile
You see there is no one like you; you had class, you had style
Your fresh face was a staple in our house every night
Now there is no reason to stay up, so I turn out the light
I remember your guests by the hundreds so great
They were dancers and singers and some heads of state
Duke Wayne, Phyllis Diller, Jane Fonda and Ali
Michael Landon, Don Rickles, they were something to see
You made us laugh hard, and boy did we cry
When the sad news came out that Johnny had died
I wish I could have told you how much I loved your show
In never got the chance; you got sick and had to go
But I sill remember all those incredible nights
You brought the stars into my house before I turned out the lights
