The California Citizens Redistricting Committee released its final maps for the state’s new political districts Thursday, one day ahead of schedule. In the final state senate map, Malibu has been reunited with neighboring cities Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Westlake Village, from which it had been separated in the latest draft of the new district. City officials had worried Malibu would lose its political voice if it was not paired with those cities, which share similar traffic and environmental issues, but the map was apparently changed at the last minute. The maps will be formally adopted Aug. 15.

Malibu will be separated from Santa Monica, with which it shares a school district, in the new senate map. Malibu stays together with Santa Monica and other local cities in the final state assembly and U.S. congressional district.
