Responding to Ken Kearsley’s negative rants about me is usually a complete waste of my time. However, the last letter Kearsley wrote to this paper, as well as an accompanying one written on the same subject by Paul Grisanti, was extremely disturbing and worth responding to. They both criticized V. Gerald Scordan’s letter about Legacy Park. They claim he is not registered to vote in Malibu. How do they know that?
According to the California Secretary of State, and I quote directly from the web site, “The voter registration rolls are confidential. The Elections Code allows voter information to be released to any candidate for federal, state, or local office, to any committee for or against any initiative or referendum measure for which legal publication is made, and to any person for election, scholarly, journalistic, or political purpose, or for governmental purposes, as determined by the Secretary of State’s Office.” It is a misdemeanor to use voter information in any other way, and I would think it particularly unsavory to use it to criticize someone publicly in a newspaper.
Perhaps Mr. Scordan, whom I do not know despite Kearsley’s linking us together, should file a complaint with the D.A. Misuse of confidential voter information should not be tolerated.
