It take a village to raise a child and Malibu has proven time and time again to be that village. Benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Malibu (BGCM), hairstylist Bernie Safire, CURE Salon and Spa Malibu, and actor Dick Van Dyke joined forces to host the 30th anniversary of Bernie Safire Cut-A-Thon, where 100 percent of the proceeds benefited the BGCM.
“We are thrilled about the new partnership with Cure Med Spa. We love our local business and as community partners, we rely on local business to help keep the doors open at our three BGCM sites,” BGCM Chief Professional Officer Kasey Earnest said.
The BGCM provides many services to kids and teens, including an enriched learning experience, and a creative and fun place for kids to explore their full potential with ongoing support from the BGCM team as well as former members of the club.
Actor Dick Van Dyke hosted the event, spending time with guests as they enjoyed the Cut-A-Thon activities. Festivities included music by DJ Gold Dust Jeff Kantor, performances by former BGCM singer Timmy Thames and Kendall Ruck, a selection of appetizers, CURE spa treatments and hair cuts by numerous stylists. Community members contributed to the fundraiser by donating silent auction items, including Malibu Makos, Kristy’s Malibu, Nati Boutique, Pinnacle, V’s Restaurant, Spruzzo’s, Toy Crazy and more.
After a four-year break, Safire was happy to be hosting his 30th Anniversary Cut-A-Thon. Safire was overwhelmed by the community’s support.
“It was like the first Cut-A-Thon I ever did, with all excitement, it was so invigorating,” Safire shared. “I never stopped, it was fantastic — the people, the music the contribution of all the people who donated their time — it was wonderful. And having Dick Van Dyke by my side, that was magic. The whole event was magic! “It was one of the best [Cut-A-Thons] I’ve ever done in the 30 years.”
Safire gave it his all and, over the course of the day, he cut and styled the hair of over 30 people.
“It was wonderful! I’m planning to do it again next year,” Safire said.
