Natalie (Tally) J. Philbrick

Natalie (Tally) J. Philbrick, 95, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, at Activcare Mission Bay, a care facility in San Diego.

She was born February 23, 1924, in Whittier, Calif., to Nat and Agnes (née Grant) Thompson.

She married Russell A. Philbrick of York, Maine, on October 9, 1944.

The couple first lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, while stationed with the Navy. They then returned to California, living 10 years in Whittier and finally moving to Malibu in 1960.

She and Russ were ardent supporters of the community. Tally was actively involved as a cub scout den mother, president of the garden club, volunteer at the Adamson House and treasurer of both Riviera II and the Point Dume Yacht Club, a loved one shared.

She enjoyed her family and friends, her garden and traveling with Russ on their sailboat, Niumalu (named after the hotel in Hawaii where they spent their honeymoon), as well as body surfing at her beloved Little Dume beach. In their retirement, they were members of an elder bicycle group that traveled together on cycle tours to various parts of the globe.

Russ died in November 2008 and five years later Tally moved to the Casa de Mañana in La Jolla, an assisted living facility, before transferring to Activcare Mission Bay in 2015.

She is survived by three sons: Bill, Mark and Scott; their wives; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
