The Pepperdine men’s tennis team had a successful match this Sunday, sweeping UC Irvine, 7-0, including two-set wins on all singles courts.
Senior Stefan Menichella and sophomore Jack Van Slyke brought in the first win of the afternoon with a 6-1 victory on court one, followed by a 6-2 victory on court three from junior doubles partners Pedro Iamachkine and Lautaro Pane — sending the Waves into singles play with an advantage.
Pepperdine grabbed a few singles wins as well, including a 6-0, 6-2 win from Iamachkine on court three, and a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court five from Van Slyke. Menichella clinched the overall win for the Waves with a 6-2 second set domination.
Freshman Dane Esses and senior Guilherme Hadlich also contributed match wins with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4 final results, respectively.
“I’m very pleased with the way the team competed from the beginning in doubles and how they were able to carry over the momentum into singles,” head coach Marcelo Ferreira said in a release provided to The Malibu Times. “All six players played with confidence and determination to cross the finish line and put a point on the scoreboard.”
Pepperdine hits the road to challenge Florida State and South Florida in Tallahassee and Tampa Feb. 24 and 26.
