The City of Malibu wants free interns. Not paying interns is considered illegal throughout the United States. My Op Ed in the LA Business Journal, “When Internships Don’t Work,” pointed out the spate of lawsuits by interns against organizations that did not pay them for their honest work. If you Google intern class action lawsuits you will find out what kind of trouble you can get into by not paying them. I think it stinks. They work hard and need the money – students are poor. I notified the city and city attorney about this issue and the result was crickets.
