Casa Malibu Inn

The Casa Malibu Inn motel, originally constructed in 1950 just south of the Malibu Pier, is seeking a few timely upgrades.

According to an application before the Malibu Planning Commission, an applicant for the motel on Carbon Beach is requesting to remodel three motel buildings, reduce the number of rooms from 22 to 16, upgrade the onsite wastewater treatment system and repair the existing bulkhead and pile foundation.

The motel’s owner is believed to be Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison, who owns several properties on Carbon Beach. On the planning application, the motel’s owner is listed as North Broadway Ventures, LLC, based out of Walnut Creek, Calif. Planning documents for the newly opened Nobu restaurant and a neighboring restaurant, still vacant, are listed under Malibu Cantina, LLC, also based out of Walnut Creek.

The applicant listed for all three properties on city planning documents is architect Severine Tatangelo of Studio PCH, LLC.

The planning commission will consider the application at its April 1 meeting.
