[Update: 10:15 p.m.:] All lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed Sunday night, Aug. 28, following a two-van collision at Heathercliff Road.
“Right now, we’re trying to clear lanes — I’m not sure the extent of injuries,” Sgt. Rotella of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station described at about 10:15 p.m.
The full closure of Malibu Canyon at Mulholland also remained in effect.
“It’s a transformer that blew that had power lines across the roadway, and we’re waiting for Edison which should still be another 15 or 20 minute closure at this point,” Rotella described, meaning Edison was due to arrive on scene at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
According to Susan Cox with Southern California Edison, 2,128 customers were affected by the downed lines.
“I don’t have a cause, but my boundaries are to the south and east is PCH, to the West is Mulholland Highway, to the north is Horizon Drive,” Cox said.
A separate downing of power lines at PCH and Morningview caused power outages across Western Malibu.
“We had also lines down on Morningview right now,” Rotell said. “We’re just getting there. PCH and Morningview. We have lines down and we have fire on scene,” Rotella said.
[Update: 10:06 p.m.:] Approximately 1,400 Malibu customers were without power Sunday night due to downed power lines, Southern California Edison reported.
Information about current outages is available from the Outage Map.
All lanes of PCH were closed Sunday night, Aug. 28, due to a traffic collision at Heathercliff Road. Sheriff’s officials could not immediately provide details of the collision.
Simultaneously, at around 9:45 p.m., all lanes of Malibu Canyon Road were closed due to downed power lines.
