The National Transportation Safety Board has published its initial report on that plane crash that shuts down the 101 freeway and paralyzed traffic in Malibu last week.

    The crash was last Tuesday.

The pilot escaped injury when he set down the vintage World War II American plane on the 101 freeway lanes in Calabasas.

The freeway was closed all afternoon … we counted at least four traffic crashes on the canyon roads and on the 101 freeway in the backup.

The NTSB reports that the pilot was flying for leisure purposes … when he heard two loud bangs and lost engine power.

His emergency landing caused the freeway to be shut down for several hours and gridlocked the canyons and Malibu.

Some motorists say it took 2 1/2 hours to get to Malibu from the San Fernando Valley.

Another high performance car … another crash on PCH.

This one was early Monday morning …

Marcus Hyde lost control of his vehicle while driving up the hill on PCH towards Pepperdine early Monday morning.

He is the personal photographer for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

His car went down the embankment towards the brand-new Malibu sewage treatment plant.

TMZ reports that Hyde suffered seizures after the crash and was airlifted from the scene and was flown out to UCLA.

No word on how fast the Mercedes AMG CLS was going but the skidmarks are extensive.

Anything that happens on Malibu Canyon Road gets a press release now … what with the hyperventilating rumor mills after last summer’s murder of a camper.

Last Sunday afternoon … a driver was heading south on Malibu Canyon Road …  heard a “bang” noise … and then her passenger door window shattered.

Deputies were called out … they talked to the driver … inspected the vehicle … canvassed the area for evidence.

    No one heard gunshots.

No evidence found to indicate the vehicle was struck by gunfire.

Based on the initial investigation, deputies believe the vehicle may have been struck by an unknown object, perhaps a rock.

Or … left unsaid ..it could have been a window cracking in the sun … not common but a not-unheard of occurrence.

Plans to expand Point Dume Elementary School go before the Santa Monica Malibu school board tomorrow night.

More importantly … the school board we’ll decide on a new realignment for Malibu’s Elementary schools … middle school and high school.

Converting Juan Cabrillo elementary school into a middle school campus is the most visible aspect of the realignment plan.

Declining enrollment means it makes more educational sense to educate western Malibu’s youngest kids on one campus … at the Point Dume.

That would enable the school district to move the middle school out of the Malibu high school campus … and move the middle school kids to the former elementary school campus.

But it also would mean major expansion at point Dume.

The school district has issued a 700 page environmental impact report on the point doom campus.

There has been scattered objection to the consolidation.

Some object to the traffic impact on local streets … others object to putting a two story, 28 foot high, classroom building fronting Grayfox street.

Is with school officials say the environmental impact report is what they call it worst-case scenario … and that the panel and that the final plans for the two-story building Will go back to the community for input.

The school board will meet at 5:30 at Malibu City Hall this week.

It takes about one hour to donate blood … it really doesn’t hurt … and they give away cookies.

You don’t need an appointment … at the blood drive goes from 10 to 3 today at the Malibu public library.
