As president of the Malibu Democratic Club, I wanted to compliment Laura Rosenthal for spearheading the “sanctuary city” issue before the city council last week, which passed 3-2, as well as Mayor Lou LaMonte and Skylar Peak for supporting the resolution as “the right thing to do.” I would also like to thank City Attorney Christi Hogin for preparing a clearly written agenda report for the council, which thoroughly set forth the issues to be addressed on the “sanctuary city” agenda item.
California, frankly, could not operate effectively without the support of undocumented workers, who often do the jobs that many Californians won’t do. The climate of fear created by our newly elected president (elected with the help of Putin and the Russians), who was overwhelmingly not supported by California voters, is distasteful and not in the spirit of our Constitution, which ordains that “all men are created equal.”
Unfortunately, Cece and Steve Woods, who run “The Local,” are planning to embark on a hate-filled campaign against the undocumented in our community, painting them as criminals and not as honest workers who are just trying to earn a living to support their families.
