Local Julia Townsend earned All-American honors at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in Wichita, Kan. July 26-31. She also competed in the State Games of America last weekend in San Diego.
Townsend placed fourth in the 3,000 meter racewalk in the 17-18-year-old division at the Junior Olympics. It was the third consecutive year that she received All-American honors in the event.
At the State Games, Townsend won the 3,000 meter racewalk and set a personal record of 17:51.
Townsend graduated in June from Louisville High School and will attend Concordia University in Irvine in the fall. At Concordia, she will compete in both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Townsend also previously attended Our Lady of Malibu School and Webster Elementary.
