Malibu Film Society

Malibu residents have movies to look forward to this August. The Malibu Film Society board unanimously approved the decision to operate year-round rather than September-May, as had been the case previously. This means three to four more movies will be screened starting July 26 until the end of August, including “The Wife” with sixth-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close before the movie debuts in theaters. The screenings will be held at the Malibu Screening Room at Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue, with the doors opening thirty minutes before showtime.

The change was prompted in part by last year’s closure of the the Regal Twin Cinemas and because of the Malibu Film Society’s recent success with studio-sponsored screenings.

The first movie screening, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” will be a free community screening on  Thursday, July 26, at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m., “Three Identical Strangers” will be open to members and those with guest reservations. Nonmember tickets will go on sale this Friday.

The third screening, “The Wife,” will be held on Thursday, August 16, at 7:45 p.m. Members can start making reservations now and will be able to make reservations for their guests next Monday, Aug. 6. Nonmember tickets will also go on sale Monday.
