The City of Malibu and The Malibu Times will observe special hours for Independence Day, July 4.

The Malibu Times office, located at 3864 Las Flores Canyon Road, will be closed on Wednesday, July 4. All newspaper deadlines will remain the same. People items and sports briefs will be due on Monday, July 2, while letters to the editor (no more than 350 words), obituaries, calendar items and news briefs will be accepted through noon on Tuesday, July 3, as usual. 

City Hall, Malibu Senior Center, Malibu Community Pool and Malibu Library will be closed all day on Independence Day. The community pool will be open on July 2-3 and 5-6 from 5-8 p.m.

Malibu Bluffs Park and the Michael Landon Center will be open from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. No regular programs are scheduled for the day. Additional security personnel will be on patrol from 4 p.m. until midnight for residents’ safety at the park. 

Trancas Canyon Park, Las Flores Creek Park, Legacy Park and Malibu Equestrian Park will be open from 8 a.m. to dusk daily.

All school campuses in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will remain closed in holiday observance.

Per Malibu Municipal Code, construction will be halted on the holiday. 

Four fireworks displays will be visible off the coast of Malibu in celebration of Independence Day in 2018—one on Sunday, July 1 and three on Wednesday, July 4.

As of Thursday, June 28, there is set to be one display off the coast at Carbon Beach/La Costa on July 1. On the Fourth of July, there will be three displays: One at Paradise Cove, one at the Malibu Colony and one at Broad Beach.

All displays are set to begin around 9 p.m., after sunset. Any other fireworks are prohibited in the City of Malibu.
