And Malibu sets yet another record … for yet another stratospheric house sale price.
But this time … a house on Billionaire’s Beach did not get snapped up by Larry Ellison … although he owns houses on either side.
A natural gas industry billionaire named Michael S. Smith and his wife, Iris Smith, have just paid 110 million dollars for a house on Billionaire’s beach.
That would be the most expensive home sale ever for Los Angeles County.
The seller … Peter Morton … who built the Hard Rock Cafe and Hotel empire.
The house is across the street from the Cafe De Lux … the old Thai Dishes center.
The Malibu sale is expected to close today … reports the L-A Times.
Two 85-million-dollar sales have also closed in the last year and a half.
This … as the median price of a Southern California home hit a record 519 thousand dollars last month.
The price at the midpoint of all sales in the five county region shot up 40 thousand dollars over year ago levels … real estate data firm CoreLogic reported.
The price at the midpoint of all sales went up 8.4 percent from March 20-17 levels.
