Lynette Hernandez, California State Park Topanga Sector Superintendent, with Aaron and Jacob Kagon, Malibu High School 6th graders, who tied as winners of this year’s Will Rogers Youth Level Essay Contest. Three award levels, Youth, Teen and Adult, were judged by the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation, Will Rogers’ family members, and Park staff. Sponsors included The Optimists Club, Target, and Village Books. An award ceremony was held Saturday during the Will Rogers 125th Birthday Celebration at the Will Rogers Ranch in Pacific Palisades.

This is Scooby, a harbor seal pup that was rescued by the California Wildlife Centers Marine Mammal Rescue Team at the Pt. Dume Stairs in June of 08. He had a large gash under his chin, was dehydrated and malnourished. He was rehabilitated at MMCC in San Pedro and has since been released back into the wild.

Giant 2 ton male elephant seal shows up for a rest on Nicholas Canyon Beach…it is very rare to see them this far south and on the mainland!
Abandoned Bobcat Rehabilitates At The California Wildlife Center This bobcat was rescued from the Ritz Carlton in San Diego, when an employee abandoned it there. It was brought to the California Wildlife Center for rehabilitation. She was later deemed unreleasable by Dept. of Fish and Game, so the search was on to find a sanctuary that would take her. Thanks to the assistance of many caring people, she was taken by the Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota.

Pamela Anderson, an avid supporter of the California Wildlife Center prepares to release a rehabilitated California Brown Pelican that was rescued by CWC and rehabilitated at IBRRC.
This is the pelican that was released at CWC’s Walk On The Wildside 5k fundraiser.
There is something so indescribable about the ocean in Malibu. Peace, serenity, calming and relaxing. I for one am blessed to have such a releasing place to call home. There is nothing greater, nowhere more desirable than Malibu California.
