Lynette Hernandez, California State Park Topanga Sector Superintendent, with Aaron and Jacob Kagon, Malibu High School 6th graders, who tied as winners of this year’s Will Rogers Youth Level Essay Contest. Three award levels, Youth, Teen and Adult, were judged by the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation, Will Rogers’ family members, and Park staff. Sponsors included The Optimists Club, Target, and Village Books. An award ceremony was held Saturday during the Will Rogers 125th Birthday Celebration at the Will Rogers Ranch in Pacific Palisades.

This is Scooby, a harbor seal pup that was rescued by the California Wildlife Centers Marine Mammal Rescue Team at the Pt. Dume Stairs in June of 08. He had a large gash under his chin, was dehydrated and malnourished. He was rehabilitated at MMCC in San Pedro and has since been released back into the wild.

Abandoned Bobcat Rehabilitates At The California Wildlife Center This bobcat was rescued from the Ritz Carlton in San Diego, when an employee abandoned it there. It was brought to the California Wildlife Center for rehabilitation. She was later deemed unreleasable by Dept. of Fish and Game, so the search was on to find a sanctuary that would take her. Thanks to the assistance of many caring people, she was taken by the Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota.
