SMMUSD Finds Trace Amounts Of PCB In Soil
Trace amounts of PCBs detected in soil under demolished Malibu High buildings. The amounts are “far below” amounts set by the federal government as hazardous.
But district officials will remove the soil, as they are “respectful of the sentiment of Malibu citizens regarding the issue of PCBs.”
The soil is being removed starting on Thursday, after “Get Yoru Stuff Day,” and ovet rthe next four days, ending on Sunday the 20th (if necessary). This is between Get Your Stuff Days and Mpnday the 21st, when teachers and staff return to campus.
Air monitoring will be conducted during all excavation and loading activities. Dust mitigation control efforts will be in place during the excavation, truck loading and departure from the site, the district says.
