Despite unfavorable conditions, the Malibu Middle School surf team surfed to a second place finish at the Mandalay Shores Scholastic Surf Series in Oxnard.
The Sharks prevailed through a peaking high tide in the morning heats, which turned into a washing machine situation that made it difficult to paddle out or in.
Noah Klapp brought home a second place finish in the girls shortboard division, with Saxon Rhodes coming in sixth. In the long board competition, Rhodes and Alana Wittig took second and third places respectively in the girls competition, while Quinn Graham took fifth in the boys. Graham and Norton Kell also advanced to the quarterfinal round of the boys shortboard competition.
