Two sailors suffered minor burns over the weekend when a drone collided with a Navy ship during a training exercise in the Point Mugu area near west Malibu.
The drone crashed into the guided missile cruiser on its left side around 1:25 p.m. on Sunday, burning two sailors on the USS Chancellorsville, the Los Angeles Times reported.Â
Officials were controlling the 13-foot drone out of Point Mugu as sailors aboard the Chancellorsville used it to help conduct a routine radar test.Â
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Approximately 300 people were onboard the ship, which suffered “some” damage. However, it was in good enough condition to cruise back to its base port in San Diego on Monday.Â
