Pepperdine University student Jared Lee recently won the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office’s Young Entrepreneur Competition, winning an all-expense-paid trip to Hong Kong.

On June 13 in San Francisco, five college students were recognized for their innovative business ideas. The contest, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, asked college students from the Western United States to create a business idea for the citizens of Hong Kong, improving the way they communicate, work and live.

Lee’s business idea proposed telehealthcare, providing remote healthcare for elders in order to ease the responsibility of elder care for family members. This would keep Hong Kong and its citizens vibrant and productive. Five judges, from United States business and community leaders to Hong Kong government officials, chose from entries from 13 cities in the Western United States. The panelists selected winners based on creativity, compliance and applicability. For more information on each winning applicant’s business ideas, visit hongkongcontest.com/winners.

Lee’s trip to Hong Kong will embark this summer from July 10-16. The trip will provide him and the other four winners with opportunities to meet and connect with some of Hong Kong’s biggest influencers, like government officials and business leaders.

“I am excited to immerse myself in Hong Kong’s culture and business as well as to broaden my education with this unique experience,” Lee said, according to information provided in a press release.
