Letter: Getting a New School

I ask myself the question, will we ever have a clean and modernized high school in Malibu?

If we become the “Malibu District,” will our new district scrap the current plans for the high school? Will the new district conclude that the current plans are not sufficient for our needs and design a new school on the existing and vacant portions of the site?

Will the opposing forces be out, again, to stop development of the campus? My opinion is yes, there will be opposition, years of approval process and a long appeal period … sound familiar?

If we — as a community — can agree dropping the appeal will allow the issuance of the coastal permit, then we must encourage Malibu Community Alliance (MCA) to drop its appeal.

Simply, this is the bottom line: the appeal is the only condition stopping the placement of children in temporary classrooms because even those structures require a permit.

MCA: Malibu kids deserve a better school.
