Locals and visitors line the shore at Surfrider Beach in Malibu during Memorial Day weekend. The holiday weekend brought hundreds of thousands of people to the local beaches, with Zuma Beach seeing the highest number of visitors.

The City of Malibu is hosting Malibu Coastweeks 2013, an environmental program, with a variety of events from Sept. 21 through Oct. 12. The purpose of the program is to “focus on the value of our coastal and water resources,” according to the city.

Malibu Coastweeks begins with Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 21. Events to follow include Bulky Item Recycling, California Friendly Landscape Workshop, Smart Gardening Workshop, Efficient Landscaping for Spanish Speaking Professionals – Training and Certification Series, and Water Quality Trainings for Construction- Related Professionals.
